Knowledge Base Article: Vapor Liquid Phase equilibrium [VLE] data Source

Following are the some of the important phase equilibrium data source:

  • Dechema Chemistry Data Series: several volumes on VLE, LLE, gas solubility, heat of mixing, azeotropes of many binary mixtures as well as some multicomponent mixtures;
  • TRC International Data Series (TRC Database): several volumes on pure component data and - in the TRC database - VLE, LLE of binary mixtures
  • IUPAC Solubility Data Series: volumes on gas solubility and evaluated data (VLE, LLE) on important systems like water-hydrocarbons and methanol-hydrocarbons;
  • GPA Research Reports with phase equilibrium data on natural gas dehydration, treating, solid deposition
  • DIPPR projects publications, particularly for projects 805 and 881 ACS Advances in Chemistry Series, particularly:
  • Horseley, L.H., Azeotropic Data, III, Advances in Chemistry Series No. 116, American Chemical Society, Washington (1973);
  • Francis A.W., Critical Solution Temperatures, Advances in Chemistry Series No. 31, American Chemical Society, Washington (1961);
  • Some important data sources for physical properties of components and mixtures:
  • API Technical Data Book - Petroleum Refining
  • GPSA Engineering Data Book
  • Handbook of Chemistry & Physics
  • Perry’s Chemical Engineers’ Handbook
  • D.W. van Kevelen, Properties of Polymers, Third, completely revised edition, Elsevier, Amsterdam (1990)

  • N.B. Vargaftik, Handbook of Physical Properties of Liquids and Gases Pure Substances and Mixtures, Second Edition, Hemisphere Publishing Corporation, Washington (1983)
  • on-line database such as Chemical Abstracts, Beilstein, Gmelin, etc. as well as the in- house sources for quick property estimation/retrieval
  • Physical and Engineering Data (Sufferdje), MF-77-500
  • PEPPER booklet (available at SIOP-ORTET/2); also available through DRPEPPER via the Shell Wide Web.
  • For quick property estimation the following books may be consulted:
  • R. C. Reid, J. M. Prausnitz, and B. E. Poling, The Properties of Gases and Liquids 4th edition, McGraw-Hill, New York (1987)
