A reliable pilot gas source is a source that supplies pilot gas to the fired heater battery limit and meets all of the following conditions:

  1. Separate from the main fuel gas supply such that both supplies will not be simultaneously interrupted by a single contingency such as power or instrument air failure or inadvertent valve closing.
  2. Available during startup.
  3. Liquefied petroleum gas vaporizers are not considered a reliable source.
