Pressure rating for Stainless Steel 316 ANSI flange at 250F

Asked by aodai 7 years, 2 months ago | 1 Answers

I am working on the Methanol Injection Pump data and would like to check with the expert on the design pressure and temperature, as well as the material.

Design conditions:

  • Material 316 SS
  • Design Pressure: 4650 psig
  • Design temperature: 2250F
  • Discharge flange rating 2500#

Do I have to use the extrapolation calculation to estimate the MAWP for use in this case using the Pressure Temperature Ratings for Stainless Steel 316 ANSI Flanges Table?

Yes, extrapolating is needed in this case to determine your actual allowable pressure.

From the Standard Pipe Code Table:

Class, Temp 0F Working Pressure, by Class, psig
200 5160
225 X
300 4660

(225-200)/(300-200) = (X-5160)/(4660-5160)

X = 4785 psig is the Maximum Pressure Rating for 316SS at 2250F.

So that would satisfy your required designed condition.

Hope that helps.
