I'm not sure the exact year when DP2 was first introduced, but I believe the industry started to play with it in the 60s and in full use in the 80s. The 90s saw the introduction of DP3 and DP2 eventually got pushed out in the North Sea by many major players. Regarding water depth, a DP2 requires a draft of about 30 foot so I think it has to be 40 foot minimum water depth for a DP2 to be moving about. Hope that sheds some lights. Anyone else has additional information we can learn from?
