Divide the nominal pipe size by two and multiply the result by one-fourth.

  • Pounds of electrode = (N/2) * 0.25

Example: Total weight in pounds of electrode will be used per weld on 10-inch line pipe.

  • Pounds of electrode = (10/2) * 0.25 = 1.25 pounds per weld

Another Example: Total weight in pounds of electrode will be used per weld on 24-inch line pipe.

  • Pounds of electrode = (24/2) * 0.25 = 3 pounds per weld
