Temporary strainers are used for the protection of compressors during the running in and initial plant operation. As the name suggest temporary strainers are not designed for long term exposure to inlet line conditions. These must be removed as soon as the inlet system is completely free of objects which can reach the compressor under operating conditions. If the temporary strainer must remain in service several months instead of several days, a differential pressure gauge and/or high differential pressure alarm must be provided across the strainer.
