• ConocoPhillips Canada (CPC) is currently recruiting a Senior Materials & Corrosion Engineer, reporting to the Asset Integrity Supervisor & Chief Inspector. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to the Asset Integrity Team day-to-day integrity activities for integrity of pressure equipment, pipelines, and tanks throughout the Canadian BU including the Surmont and Montney Assets. The Senior Materials & Corrosion Engineer is also responsible to work with the Capital Projects team to ensure that asset integrity considerations are designed into all new projects. The position will be based in Calgary but travel to Fort McMurray and Fort St John will be required.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong background in an engineering function and a proven track-record of people skills and integration across a multi-disciplined team. This Senior Materials & Corrosion Engineer role is critical in the ongoing success of safe and steady operations at Surmont and the start-up and ramp up of the Montney appraisal infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority in Canada for hot tapping, flange management, piping materials, protective coatings, sour service material, and welding.
  • Provide technical support for 5-why investigations and RCAs.
  • Participate in PHA/HAZOPS, Risk Assessments, Model Reviews and HSE Investigations as required.
  • Identify failure and repair pattern and build business cases for continuous improvement opportunities once identified.
  • Participate in MOC P&ID reviews to ensure the proposed design meets the applicable code and will not cause any detrimental effect to the asset integrity of pressure equipment.
  • Coordinate with site personnel, facility engineers, and outside vendors to identify and execute potential cost saving opportunities and to remain current with emerging technology.
  • Engage process engineering to provide additional technical engineering support on any issues/projects/opportunities.
  • Act as the asset integrity representative on OPEX & CAPEX projects to ensure Provincial Regulations, Codes and CPC standards are met
  • Act as the asset integrity representative OPEX & CAPEX projects to ensure integrity requirements are designed into the project including such items as cathodic protection, corrosion coupons, UT locations, chemical inhibition, corrosion resistant coatings etc.
  • Maintain the Over Pressure Protection by System Design (OPPSD) cases

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Welding, or Metallurgy discipline
  • Alberta Professional Engineer designation or working toward accreditation
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with pressure equipment, pipeline & tank design, inspection, construction, repair and maintenance
  • Strong knowledge and experience in welding, materials selection, corrosion mechanisms, and mitigation techniques including chemical application and cathodic protection.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical and project management skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel to site 20% of the time
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications

  • API 510, 570, 653, and 580 certifications are preferred
  • NACE training or certification in corrosion control, cathodic protection, coatings, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of field operations in SAGD and conventional gas assets
  • Strong Facility, Pipeline and Well integrity knowledge
  • Experience with PCMS and/or other similar software
  • Knowledge of new construction codes and standards
  • Knowledge of local jurisdictional requirements – ABSA, Technical Safety BC, Alberta Energy Regulator, and BC Oil & Gas Commission
  • Strong PC skills (MS Office, SAP etc)
  • Strong commitment to safety and support of CPC core values
  • Ability/desire to share best practices/key learning across the organization
