You will use your expertise to:

  • Implement process controls improvements that delivers safe and reliable operations
  • Lead the development and implementation of a world class advanced process controls strategy
  • Analyze and develop solutions to address complex process problems
  • Collect and analyze plant response data to build empirical and/or semi-empirical dynamic process models
  • Set up and execute controller simulation for large scope problems
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to complete validation of new process equipment from the process control point of view
  • Ensure the timely resolution of technical issues and technical support requests from other partners
  • Improve and optimize process control performance through continuous improvement initiatives and techniques
  • Develop and support process control best practices, standards and guidelines
  • Oversee advanced process control equipment and applications, providing regular maintenance and troubleshooting or resolving issues as they arise
  • Monitor and report on economy and performance of the plant from the process control point of view

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of experience in the field of advanced process controls
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Post-Graduate studies in Process Control, Computer Science or Mathematics
  • Been registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Superior collaboration skills that enables you to build solid, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • A continuous improvement mindset and you seek greater knowledge and understanding in your work

Preference for:

  • Multivariable Controllers using Aspentech DMC Plus/DMC3 or Honeywell RMPCT
  • Experience with MATLAB and its Control Related Toolboxes (i.e. System Identification, Process Control, Optimization, SIMULINK)
  • Real-Time Optimizers such as ROMEO or Honeywell Profit Optimizer
  • Process Control Systems such as Honeywell Experion PKS/ TPS/TDC3000 System (i.e. Configuration of Regulatory Control Algorithms/Blocks, Control Language Programming, etc.)
  • Inferential Models Development using Principal Component Analysis and/or Partial Least Squares Regression

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday; with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
