You will use your expertise to:

  • Coordinate development and review of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) scopes of work as the basis for awarding and managing contracts
  • Update project manager of emerging risk issues, including safety, cost, schedule and quality
  • Actively manage all project changes to deliver on the project mandate while maintaining an owner’s mindset
  • Coordinate and ensure all engineered items that are required for the project are procured in accordance with the project specification, schedule and dates.
  • Develop, write and stamp in-house scopes of work as a professional engineer
  • Ensure regular and clear communication with project stakeholders namely – Development, Construction, Ready for Operations and Commissioning teams.
  • Develop and sustain a collaborative working relationship with Tailings CFT and other functional groups at the appropriate working level to the assigned scope of work.
  • Provide timely and accurate estimates and forecasts on cost, schedule baselines, resources, and risk identification and mitigations for assigned scopes

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Seven to ten years of experience in project execution
  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • You have a positive work ethic and are a strong communicator with an aptitude to build strong positive relationships and effectively drive messaging to diverse groups within an organization
  • Continuous improvement mindset with strong communication and decision-making capacity
  • Ability to influence senior leaders in the organization and mentor junior staff members
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Proficiency in project engineering, Suncor’s ADEM process
  • Experience in Tailings, mining or civil works.
  • Registration with project management institute (PMI)
  • Project management and regulatory experience
  • Change management skills and the ability to influence and negotiate with partners to accept proposed changes
  • Ability to hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same
