You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide in-depth technical support, expertise and guidance for design and construction of new projects, adhering to our Journey to Zero safety mindset
  • Identify, evaluate, recommend and implement opportunities to gain efficiencies through new technologies or improved processes
  • Support project planning, estimating, work breakdown structure development, execution and contracting strategies, constructability reviews, and post-implementation evaluation of project success
  • Develop all project documentation per Suncor’s standards, guidelines, and processes, including all scope of work, project meeting notes, maintaining files of all actions, decisions, changes and communications throughout the project’s life cycle
  • Provide support to field supervisors during project execution
  • Support Operations in developing project commissioning and start-up plans
  • Build strong positive relationships while interacting closely with engineering consultants, vendors and fabricators, construction contractors, inspectors, regulatory agencies, as well as internal and external partners
  • Participate in incident investigations and emergency response drills
  • Identify potential risks, based on the corporate risk matrix, and that the appropriate mitigation plan is developed as needed throughout the project’s life cycle
  • Ensure that all project deliverables meet project quality, cost and schedule requirements
  • Review and approve engineering and construction work packages as part of the execution plan

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of project execution experience in oil and gas or petrochemical industries
  • A post-secondary education, preferably in engineering, applied science or equivalent
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to create effective solutions to complex issues
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with strong non-authoritative leadership abilities that enable you to build positive relationships with diverse groups and co-workers
  • Strong decision-making and analytical skills
  • An adaptive work style and an ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment with multiple competing priorities, challenging demands, and strict deadlines
  • A valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to Suncor

Preference for:

  • A valid professional engineering designation and/or PMP certification
  • Operations or maintenance experience in a refinery environment
  • Project engineering proficiency, leadership and strong technical capability
  • A continuous improvement mindset with strong communication and decision-making capacity
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, follow processes and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Commerce City Refinery, located at 5455 Brighton Blvd
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs and after-hour emergency call-out
  • Relocation support will be provided
