Process Safety & Risk Engineer

  • Provide oversight, guidance and support to the Engineering, Operations, and PSM Coordinator Teams
  • Serve as the subject-matter-expert (SME) with regards to the requirements and programs required to manage HSSE risks
  • Facilitate/participate/validate risk assessments such as HAZOPs, What-Ifs to advise Asset/Project teams in resulting outcome and measurable actions
  • Support Asset teams and PSM Coordinators in the review/approval of MOCs and PSSRs
  • Assist project teams in process design reviews and identification of issues at various project stages and serve as the Process Safety representative for assigned projects
  • Facilitate/validate consequence analysis such as dispersion modeling
  • Facilitate facility siting and detailed quantitative risk assessment studies via third party contractors, as needed
  • Support the oversight and implementation of the Corporate Risk Management Program, OSHA PSM Program and EPA RMP
  • Support the implementation of tools used to analyze HSSE risks and exposures
  • Participate in OSHA PSM Audits and drive continuous improvement through audit action close-out
  • Conduct HSSE process safety/technical risk related training for personnel
  • Participate in process safety/risk related incident investigations
  • Support the development and implementation of optimal HSSE risk mitigation strategies and methodologies
  • Support the compilation of Asset’s process safety events (PSE) key performance indicators (leading and lagging)
  • Understanding of Asset risk profile, drive towards continuous improvement and mitigations for safe operations
  • Support Asset teams in risk-related studies’ action tracking close-out


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Chemical)


  • 5+ years working experience in HSSE process safety / technical risk engineering, loss prevention, and preferably in gas plant and midstream operations

Professional/Technical Knowledge:

  • Demonstrates a sound working knowledge and ability to apply all technical principles, theories, and concepts within the process safety & technical risk engineering function
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding by performing technical risk engineering studies by utilizing company/industry experience to identify solutions
  • Demonstrates knowledge of technical risk tools such as PHA-Pro, PHAST, and other software
  • Demonstrates knowledge of technical risk engineering by participating in the development of strategic risk reduction options for management consideration
  • Limited supervision, self-motivation required

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA PSM, and EPA RMP standards
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of dispersion modeling software packages
  • Strong knowledge of facility siting methodologies and approaches
  • Working knowledge of relevant API/ASME/IEC/NFPA standards
  • Ability to travel for project/assignment/Asset team support (30-40% estimated travel time)
