You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide expertise on data engineering concepts for the broader applied analytics team and inspires the adoption of advanced data engineering practices
  • Oversee multiple projects as a technical team member looking for efficiencies through user stories and new opportunities to improve our overall architecture
  • Develop broad approaches to information and data management issues across the analytics program and influence the deployment of these solutions through specific projects and programs
  • Support projects in the overall solution design and selection of concepts or technology based upon the design, and how to integrate into Suncor’s overall Enterprise Architecture platforms
  • Ensure all automated processes preserve data by managing the alignment of data availability and integration processes
  • Evaluate and provides feedback on future technologies and new releases/upgrades
  • Lead the creating, refining, managing and enforcing of data management policies, procedures, conventions and standards
  • Provide technical assistance to junior team members and to colleagues across the organization

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years of experience with data modeling and an understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases
  • Experience with Information and Data frameworks and processes (e.g. Information Governance Reference Model, DAMA DMBOK Framework)
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineer, Computer Science and/or a related field
  • Broad knowledge of information, content, and data management technologies with commitment to continuous learning to keep pace with emerging trends
  • The ability to challenge conventional thinking and traditional ways of operating and inviting stakeholders to identify issues and opportunities

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • This role can also be supported from one of our hub locations (e.g. Mississauga, Fort McMurray, Edmonton, Sarnia, Montreal)
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
