You will use your expertise to:

  • Show dedication and support to our Journey to Zero safety culture and programs 
  • Provide technical mechanical support to other refinery departments such as Process Engineering, Turnaround, and Operations
  • Provide technical assurance on Management of Change (MOC) for mechanical issues. Serve as the MOC Responsible Person for mechanical driven MOCs
  • Support Reliability Engineering and Inspection as needed on RBI Assessments, inspection interval analysis, and turnaround work scope optimization
  • Lead, train, and champion a positive reciprocal environment and set clear communication of engineering requirements to construction contractors and Suncor craft personnel
  • Lead the maintenance repair scope development and associated engineering and designs required while engaging diverse groups with competing priorities
  • Manage maintenance projects as well as process hazard analysis (PHA) short term mitigations
  • Provide engineering support for outages and turnarounds including scope development, design, quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC)
  • Challenge status quo within the context of continuous improvement, develop and encourage creative solutions and new ways of thinking that go beyond traditional approaches
  • Maintain asset technical and engineering information through document control center (DCC) equipment files, I engineering drawings, and other Suncor database programs

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Three years of experience in a mechanical engineering plant 
  • A Bachelor Degree in Engineering; preferably in Mechanical
  • The ability to read, understand, and interpret design drawings
  • Strong communication skills to build positive relationships with a diverse group of people to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Strong technical, decision-making, analytical skills with the capability to think strategically and identify root-causes and critical elements

Preference for:

  • Working experience with rotating or fixed equipment
  • Working experience with fired heaters, boilers, and plant utility equipment
  • Fit for service equipment experience
  • Successful clearance of your Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Denver Refinery Business Center, located at 5455 Brighton Blvd., Commerce City, Colorado 80022
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs (including scheduled on-call weekends)
  • Frequent field presence to support maintenance activities is expected (approximately 20 – 40% of a normal work week) where climbing stairs/ladders and occasional equipment entry is required.
  • Donning special PPE such as respiratory equipment and fall protection may be required.
  • Flexibility is needed to work extended hours during peak turnarounds and peak project periods
