A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Modeling complex pipeline systems and providing options to determine optimal operation
  • Performing "what if" scenario analyses to evaluate future opportunities
  • Constructing energy cost optimization models and evaluating them on a risk/reward basis; then succinctly presenting your results and recommendations to business leaders
  • Participating in strategic discussions with customers as an embedded member of the customer business team
  • Working with project managers to clarify and input business objectives into your model
  • Supporting a Management of Change Processes and/or Process Hazard Assessments
  • Supporting a cross-functional team in troubleshooting operational issues
  • Developing tools to support more automated operational decision making
  • Validating operating pressures for desired performance levels
  • Brainstorming challenges and opportunities with the Hydraulics, Engineering, and Energy Management Team
  • Supporting the development of vision and direction to advance the Hydraulic capability and increase the value it adds to the business

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, physics or mathematics
  • Up to 10% travel including overnight stays if located in Wichita. Travel requirements could increase if located outside Wichita
  • Passion for optimizing systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite  
  • Affinity for learning engineering software skills and tools
  • Ability to work independently without specific, detailed instructions to accomplish most tasks
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams; including the willingness to challenge status quo thinking
  • Ability to identify with customers and a passion for using your engineering skills to make them more productive
  • Good written and oral communication skills

What Will Put You Ahead:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical or mechanical engineering with specific courses strongly related to fluid flow and energy transfer
  • Experience in the petroleum industry
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software; experience with Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS) and Pipeline Optimizer (PLO) 
  • Experience/Interest in Analytics and Machine Learning
  • Experience in working with Power Utility counterparties and achieving positive results
  • Willingness to challenge flawed or non-economic decisions or thinking
