Responsibilities/Duties

  • Oversees daily operation of the assigned pilot or mini-plant unit, providing input and support for operating technologists.
  • Demonstrates strong engineering skills to appropriately identify and validate opportunities based on data analysis and interpretation.
  • Trains and mentors junior pilot plant facility engineers.
  • Conducts research on assigned projects using knowledge of scientific principles, theory, and experimental design within a scientific discipline.
  • Prepares for and leads pilot plant campaigns for the assigned unit including preliminary reviews, data interpretation, and final reporting. Accomplishes this by working with department scientists and senior engineers (Subject Matter Experts – SME’s) in their respective fields.
  • Participates in the innovation process as it applies to specific assigned projects and contributes to the innovation process through new opportunity identification.
  • Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET) is understood and utilized and that process automation is used as a tool to optimize pilot plant performance
  • Utilizes defined MET and challenges/escalates MET application assumptions when better solutions arise, assisting in the development of new MET.
  • Partners with experts to perform advanced troubleshooting and to improve and document operating discipline.
  • Applies the Scientific Method in the planning and execution of experimental plans and problem solving. Formulates hypotheses and develops experimental plans to test hypotheses. Learn the appropriate use of continuous improvement principles to solve complex problems.
  • Designs and installs plant process modifications to enable targeted research programs to be completed successfully.
  • Works with unit and other Performance Plastics personnel to plan and execute routine plant shutdowns, conduct required maintenance activities, and to determine what experiments will run in the pilot plant.
  • Maintains, owns, and reviews daily Key Process Indicators (KPI’s)/trends to ensure optimum performance of assigned pilot plant.
  • Improves asset reliability by identifying opportunities and implementing solutions to process/equipment reliability challenges.
  • Diagnoses and documents root causes of asset utilization losses in the facility.
  • Acts as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drives implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensures that environmental and other reporting requirements are met for the facility.
  • Leads capital projects and consults on process control code.
  • Assesses improvement opportunities and identifies most effective solutions to impact the business’s capital spending, operating costs, and ability to maintain/improve our competitive position within the petrochemical industry.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or science-related field
  • 2 years of relevant industry experience
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or PhD
  • 4-5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Solution or High Pressure Polyethylene process technology experience
  • Experience interacting with MOD V or DeltaV process control systems
  • Production Engineering, Process Engineering, or related plant experience
  • Knowledge of process safety work processes such as LOPA, LPP Gap Assessment, EAT, etc.
  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this role and may be provided based on eligibility.
